Review by Brighton & Hove Albion fan Vaughan Storm
Why did you choose to go to this game and why were you looking forward to it?
It’s a fantastic ground from the outside and inside especially the Holte and Trinity Road stands. It was a traditional 3pm Saturday kickoff.
How did you travel to the game and how easy was it?
We drove. It was good until we got onto the Birmingham motorways M6 and M42 where we had 45 minutes of slow movement which got us at the car park 45 minutes later than we wanted. If you can, avoid these motorways when going to the ground.
If you drove, was it easy to find car parking and make your way to the stadium?
There’s a lot of car parking around, some free and closer places cost money. We parked at Star City where there is a load of food facilities and is around 30 minutes walk away from the ground.
Where did you eat on your away day and was it good value?
We had McDonald’s before the game and we stopped for KFC after the game. £15 for the 2 of us, not bad.
What did you think of the away end and your view of the game?
It’s not bad actually, you get both tiers of the north side of the Doug Ellis stand. I was in the upper tier right in the middle and it’s a very good view compared to other away games. Concourse is a bit small but apart from that not too bad.
What was the atmosphere like during the match?
Good, everyone standing in the away end, both sets of fans making some noise in this eventful game. Limbs every time there was a goal.
How friendly were the home fans out of 10?
7/10. Outside of the ground there was no trouble but there was chants against us when the game was going on.
How easy did you find it to get away from the stadium after the game?
Traffic in the city was awful but once you were on the motorways it was all fine.
How much did you spend in total on this away day? Was it good value for money?
Just under £90. £30 in fuel which surprisingly only used half a tank, £40 for me and my dad’s ticket combined (£30 adult, £10 Under 18), £15 for food and £3.50 for the match programme. Definitely value for money. It was cheaper than going to the Olympic stadium which is way closer and was a class game.
Would you recommend this away day to other fans?
Yes, definitely!
Review by Swansea City fan Barney Lloyd-Wood
Why did you choose to go to this game and why were you looking forward to it?
Villa is easily the second best away trip in English football!
How did you travel to the game and how easy was it?
We travelled by train and it was very easy!
If you got the train, how easy did you find it to make your way to the stadium from the station?
Extremely easy to find the stadium.
Which pubs did you go to before the game and what was the atmosphere like?
The Witton Arms. Superb stuff, the away fans section is a great novelty and it makes Villa a standout trip.
What did you think of the away end and your view of the game?
Not the best, not the worst. Any trip where you’re on the side of the pitch isn’t ideal, but it’s not like I missed any away goals as we got beat 1-0.
What was the atmosphere like during the match?
Top notch in the away end!
How friendly were the home fans out of 10?
7/10

Spent around £70 and yeah it was good value.

Absolutely!
