JobServe Community Stadium (capacity 10,105)
Colchester United played at Layer Road between 1937 and 2008 before moving into their new home, the JobServe Community Stadium for the start of the 2008/9 season. The stadium cost around £14 million to build, and was paid for by Colchester Borough Council, who own the stadium.
The stadium contains four separate single-tiered stands, all of which are of similar height and design and which offer good views of the game. The stands are also quite steep which means the fans are all quite close to the pitch which generates an excellent atmosphere.
Away fans visiting the JobServe Community Stadium are located in the northern side of the JobServe Stand, with a typical allocation of 1,000. For larger away followings, the North Stand is used, with an allocation of around 2,000.
There is plenty of space at the stadium itself, but if you can’t find a place for your car here then there is an overspill car park which can be found at a nearby industrial estate. There is an extenseive residents only parking scheme in operation, so street parking is almost impossible in the areas near the stadium. If your Sat Nav doesn’t recognise CO4 5UP, then try CO4 5JS, which is the nearby Rapid Electronics factory.
We’ve compiled a list of car parks, below, near to the JobServe Community Stadium for hassle free parking while you’re at the match.
|Car Park||Sat Nav||Cost||Distance to Ground||Description|
|JobServe Community Stadium Car Park||CO4 5UP||£6-£10||0.1km||There are 700 parking spaces at the stadium. However, it is essential to book these in advance via the Colchester United website. The cost varies between £6 and £10 depending on how close to the exit you park.|
Colchester North is the nearest Railway Station to the stadium, and is located around 2 miles away. There is a shuttle bus service operated by the club, which costs £2.50 for a return and will take you directly to the stadium. The bus departs from Bruff Close, which is near the railway station. When you exit the station, you’ll see a roundabout on your right. The buses leave outside the Big Yellow Self Storage, which is located just off the roundabout.
For those wishing to walk, at the same roundabout, take the second left onto Mile Road. Follow this road and it eventually becomes Nayland Road. When you reach the roundabout, cross straight over onto Boxted Road. Continue for around half a mile and then take a right onto United Way, where you will see the stadium on the left ahead of you.
