Review by Everton fan Murph
Why did you choose to go to this game and why were you looking forward to it?
As a South East based Evertonian I keep in touch by attending away games south of Birmingham. On paper this game was easy to get to….
How did you travel to the game and how easy was it?
By rail from Horsham. It was a very frustrating trip as there were no trains from East Croydon to Clapham for some reason so had to change trains all around south London.
If you got the train, how easy did you find it to make your way to the stadium from the station?
Very easy. The stadium is very close to Kew Bridge and the best pub is just to the right of the station exit.
Which pubs did you go to before the game and what was the atmosphere like?
The Express Tavern right by the station. Great choice – loads of Blues as usual but good mix of locals as well. Great atmosphere.
What did you think of the food and drink available inside the ground?
I think I had a chicken pie. I’d had a few pints so had the munchies but as I recall it was good. Beers were good too and the service was great!
What did you think of the away end and your view of the game?
Good stadium and we filled our section. The only niggle was that the strange dip in the far side stand meant the sun was in our eyes for much of the game.
What was the atmosphere like during the match?
It was great to begin with but deteriorated badly (in our end) as Everton were shocking. By the end it was toxic and our players were made very aware of our feelings when they initially began to approach us. The home support was great – love Hey Jude belting out.
How friendly were the home fans out of 10?
10/10 – I even got interviewed by Billy the Bee in the pub after but don’t remember much of what I said – probably drivel and ungracious as I was in a mood over our performance.
How easy did you find it to get away from the stadium after the game?
Same problems with the trains – what should have been a 90 minute journey took over 3 hours.
How much did you spend in total on this away day? Was it good value for money?
£30 ticket, £20 odd on the train tickets and hundreds on the ale!
Would you recommend this away day to other fans?
Yes – I hope Brentford stay up so I can do it again next year (although the way were playing I should say I hope we stay up!)
Is there anything else you want to tell us about your day?
Great day out spoiled by a rubbish display from our shower. Had a couple at the Globe pub – great little pub with cracking staff!
