Review by Bradford City fan Chris Lowe
Why did you choose to go to this game and why were you looking forward to it?
Only went because Bradford City are doing well.
How did you travel to the game and how easy was it?
Train from London, which is very easy – a couple of options on the route.
If you got the train, how easy did you find it to make your way to the stadium from the station?
About a 15 minute walk. Make sure you walk down Priestfield Road for the away end as you can no longer access it from the roads parallel on either side.
Which pubs did you go to before the game and what was the atmosphere like?
Got there early so went for a walk to the old docks area and went to a standard food led pub, the Mast and Rigging, which was fine.
What did you think of the food and drink available inside the ground?
Hot coffee, friendly staff.
What did you think of the away end and your view of the game?
Shocking! This temporary stand has been there years. It looks like the dodgy rigging they put up for a few days at the 18th hole. No-one believes that it is truly safe, and 3/4 of it was shut when we were there.
What was the atmosphere like during the match?
Good atmosphere. Gillingham fans get behind their team. Their mascot has a “stars and stripes” outfit in honour of their new owners, which was a bit embarrassing.
How friendly were the home fans out of 10?
8/10 – We were quite cut off from them due to our stand and the route to away end.
How easy did you find it to get away from the stadium after the game?
OK. Straight forward walk back to station.
Would you recommend this away day to other fans?
Not really. It’s a sad run-down place and a long way from most places.
Review by Ipswich Town fan Jamie Green
Why did you choose to go to this game and why were you looking forward to it?
The game is not far from me and it was my first away day.
How did you travel to the game and how easy was it?
It was an easy drive there.
If you drove, was it easy to find car parking and make your way to the stadium?
Parking in Gillingham is a nightmare. We ended up parking at a friends house 5 minutes from Priestfield.
Where did you eat on your away day and was it good value?
Pies at the ground – Very nice.
What did you think of the food and drink available inside the ground?
Good, and a decent price as well.
What did you think of the away end and your view of the game?
The away end was a hole to be honest. It had scaffolding and the seating felt very unsteady for us as we filled the stand. The view of the game wasn’t too bad overall but I didn’t feel particularly safe.
What was the atmosphere like during the match?
From Gills it was very flat and dull. Ipswich made the day awesome with chanting throughout.
How friendly were the home fans out of 10?
8/10 – The locals are friendly enough.
How easy did you find it to get away from the stadium after the game?
Not very easy. The stewards made us walk around the away street rather than onto the street our car was parked on even though we explained it to them.
How much did you spend in total on this away day? Was it good value for money?
£35-50.
Would you recommend this away day to other fans?
No. The parking is atrocious and the stand is just a hole. Great result but a wet afternoon in Gillingham won’t be on cards for me again.
