Review by Yeovil Town fan Gav Cheetham
Why did you choose to go to this game and why were you looking forward to it?
I want to ‘do the 92’ and see Yeovil at a new ground. So when the fixtures came out for the new season in June, Grimsby was the first one we pencilled in.
How did you travel to the game and how easy was it?
On the official supporters bus. It took 6.5 hours with one 30 min service station stop.
Which pubs did you go to before the game and what was the atmosphere like?
Had a couple of pints inside the ground in the bar dedicated to away fans.
Where did you eat on your away day and was it good value?
Had some legendary Cleethorpes fish & chips on the high street, and had some banter with some Grimsby fans waiting in the queue.
What did you think of the away end and your view of the game?
Blundell Park is an old fashioned ground with pillars, but as less than 100 of us had made the long trek from Somerset we could sit where we had a clear view of the pitch.
What was the atmosphere like during the match?
The home fans were vocal early on, but as Yeovil grew into the game, the small pocket of away fans sang their hearts out.
How friendly were the home fans out of 10?
10/10 – Met some in the chip shop and walking to the ground. They were all so friendly.
How easy did you find it to get away from the stadium after the game?
Fine, as we were on the supporters bus.
How much did you spend in total on this away day? Was it good value for money?
£70 which is an average amount for a Northern away day.
Would you recommend this away day to other fans?
Yes, I can’t fault anything about the day.
Is there anything else you’d like to tell other away fans?
Well as my team won 1-0 with a classic away performance for a 1st ever win at Grimsby. We kept a clean sheet, the sun shined and we had a great journey with a good friend and some amazing fish and chips. What’s not to like!
