Review by Middlesbrough fan Darren
Why did you choose to go to this game and why were you looking forward to it?
First round of the League Cup. Cup games can bring that extra bit of excitement should teams be drawing and also the chance for other players in the squad to get game time.
How did you travel to the game and how easy was it?
Travelled by car, and parked at the Gas works. Traffic was alright with the exception of the M62. Stadium is easy to get to with plenty of parking for away coaches.
If you drove, was it easy to find car parking and make your way to the stadium?
Parking wasn’t the best, however was close enough to the stadium, only problem with parking at the Gas works is waiting for the roads to be cleared enough and be reopened. This took about 30 mins due to the small amount of home fans! Signs state it could be as long as 1 hour after full time before the roads closer to the stadium are open.
What did you think of the food and drink available inside the ground?
Poor, only hit dogs and pies with limited soft drinks. 2 small kiosks for over 2000 away fans. No children’s options either for those travelling with children.
What did you think of the away end and your view of the game?
The stand itself is good with clear views of the pitch. The concourse behind the stands is open to the elements which could be off putting for those with small children in the winter months.
What was the atmosphere like during the match?
A small section of the home supports seated in the same stand as the away supports where the only ones to really get behind Huddersfield. The opposite stand behind the goal was completely empty with only a few hundred in the stands to the sides of the pitch. Assuming this was due to the kick off time of 7pm on a Tuesday and that it was a cup game.
How friendly were the home fans out of 10?
10/10
How easy did you find it to get away from the stadium after the game?
The only problem was waiting for roads to reopen due to parking close to the stadium.
How much did you spend in total on this away day? Was it good value for money?
Good value, due to reduced ticket cost for the cup game.
Would you recommend this away day to other fans?
If the home fans turn up then an increase in atmosphere would make this a good away day in a good looking and different style of stadium.
Review by Chelsea fan Richard Pigden
Why did you choose to go to this game and why were you looking forward to it?
I am a Chelsea season ticket holder and this was the first game of the season and I’ve enjoyed previous visits to Huddersfield.
How did you travel to the game and how easy was it?
Official club coach, we were quite badly delayed by known roadworks and an accident on the alternative route.
Where did you eat on your away day and was it good value?
We had intended to return to the Chilli Lounge, which is a curry house we went to last year but did not have time after the traffic problems. Last year it was good value.
What did you think of the food and drink available inside the ground?
The choice was average so was the quality. Fairly expensive for what it was.
What did you think of the away end and your view of the game?
The away end was good. Decent view as long as you are not too close to the front and I like sharing an end with home fans.
What was the atmosphere like during the match?
Atmosphere was good especially considering the eventual result. Again sharing an end with the vocal home fans helps.
How friendly were the home fans out of 10?
8/10
How easy did you find it to get away from the stadium after the game?
The local police helped get the coaches away pretty quickly and the traffic was not too bad.
How much did you spend in total on this away day? Was it good value for money?
£60/£70. Chelsea’s coach travel is £10 per match which is exceptional value. The £30 max ticket price helps as well.
Would you recommend this away day to other fans?
Yes, definitely!
Is there anything else you want to tell other away fans about your day?
Huddersfield are one of a few clubs who have moved to a new ground and managed to retain some character, I really enjoy going there.
