Review by West Brom fan Adam Hunter
Why did you choose to go to this game and why were you looking forward to it?
Never been before, neither has my Dad (in his 70’s), also took along my 2 sons to tick off another away ground.
How did you travel to the game and how easy was it?
We drove. The route down from the Midlands was a breeze, traffic light and even the dual carriageway A roads enabled a steady 3 hour journey.
If you drove, was it easy to find car parking and make your way to the stadium?
Utter nightmare parking. We went in blind and instead of parking on the motorway friendly side (the previous reviews highlight the Council Hall car parks as an option) we ended up at a multi story past the ground on the retail park. Ended up £12 to park, 20 mins to get off the car park and another 30 mins crawling through the previously closed roads back to the A146. Next time I’ll stay on the hill amongst the housing estates and walk in. So much easier to get out of there.
Which pubs did you go to before the game and what was the atmosphere like?
The Premier Inn on the river allows a mix but can get very busy. I’ll try The Rose, Kings Arms or the Freemasons Arms next time.
What did you think of the away end and your view of the game?
Away end is at the end of the side stand, not a bad view. Slightly to your right is the bottom tier of the Barclay Stand which is their ‘singy’ stand where the traditional gang making hand gestures to away fans live 🙂 Unfortunately we encouraged them with our normal away day incompetent performance.
What was the atmosphere like during the match?
Good atmosphere, it’s a struggle when half your team have the day off but the Norwich fans in the one end were in good voice.
How friendly were the home fans out of 10?
10/10 – No issues at all.
Norwich are similar to WBA fans to be fair, generally relaxed and out for a good time and a couple of beers.
How easy did you find it to get away from the stadium after the game?
A shocker! The exit road closed after the game and trying to go the long way round the city was just as bad. The single lane A road just couldn’t handle the outbound traffic. Either stay slightly later and have a beer until it all dies down or ensure you park at the top of the hill and close to the away fans. DO NOT park past the ground and expect to get away in a decent time. Look for somewhere nearer Martineau Lane.
How much did you spend in total on this away day? Was it good value for money?
Fuel, tickets, parking and beer was £190. It’s not a ground I’ll go to every season so to tick it off was worth it.
Would you recommend this away day to other fans?
Yes! The retail park next to the ground has the generic restaurants associated with a retail park. I would have preferred a nice pub with character that we were allowed into. Next time will be different as I’ll do more research before going, not the best away pubs as they seem a little insular or just don’t have many pubs near the ground that they’re happy to share. Easy to drive to but parking needs looking into for the next trip.

Why did you choose to go to this game and why were you looking forward to it?
All Everton away games are a party – a great day out spoiled by a game of football. But I thought we’d win this one! How wrong I was!
How did you travel to the game and how easy was it?
By Train from Horsham West Sussex. Easy. Nice trip.
If you got the train, how easy did you find it to make your way to the stadium from the station?
I went the wrong way out the stadium and ended up in an empty pub but checked maps and found the ground easy.
Which pubs did you go to before the game and what was the atmosphere like?
Went to a town centre pub which was empty and only sold lager but found the Coach and Horses which was rocking with blues and sold great beers. The best part of the day!!
Where did you eat on your away day and was it good value?
I took my own homemade chilli pies – better than shop bought!
What did you think of the away end and your view of the game?
Good seats right at the front – great view (unfortunately)!
What was the atmosphere like during the match?
Until Michael Keane’s own goal after 14 mins it was great from both sides but then it turned septic in our end as we could see what was going to happen. I’m hindsight HE got sacked so all’s well that ends well.
How friendly were the home fans out of 10?
10 – there were a few in the pub and they were great. Some banter in the ground but fair enough.
How easy did you find it to get away from the stadium after the game?
Dead easy even though I was just staring at the floor all the way!
How much did you spend in total on this away day? Was it good value for money?
About £100 – yes, despite the match it was a good day out.
Would you recommend this away day to other fans?
Yes – I hope Norwich stay up (not at our expense) so I can do it again next year. Coach and Horses is one of the best away pubs I’ve been to. The staff were great too!
Review by Southampton fan Mark
Why did you choose to go to this game and why were you looking forward to it?
I normally have a three hour travel limit and this was just inside. Norwich have a new manager and we were looking to beat the same manager with different clubs in consecutive weeks. Plus this was a winnable game.
How did you travel to the game and how easy was it?
By car – motorway and dual carriageway all the way there. Very easy drive.
If you drove, was it easy to find car parking and make your way to the stadium?
We usually find a supermarket or hotel car park on this site, and Sainsburys was good. About a 15 minute walk to the ground with an easy getaway.
Where did you eat on your away day and was it good value?
Ate outside the ground. There are burger vans to choose from. One is right outside their shop.
What did you think of the food and drink available inside the ground?
Usual choice inside the stadium as the beer was Carling.
What did you think of the away end and your view of the game?
Side view which was decent. Allocation was good.
What was the atmosphere like during the match?
Pre match their PA system is so loud it drowns out any singing. During the game the Norwich fans sounded quite loud so made for a good atmosphere. Also they are given flags to wave which sets a good tone.
How friendly were the home fans out of 10?
Spoke to their fans before and after game. Friendly and very knowledgeable. They knew a lot more about our players than I did about theirs.
How easy did you find it to get away from the stadium after the game?
Easy walk back, albeit a little uphill.
How much did you spend in total on this away day? Was it good value for money?
Petrol £50. Two tickets £50. Food £10. Drinks inside £15.
Would you recommend this away day to other fans?
Yes, tickets more towards the middle are usually better to watch the match, though you can then miss some of the banter with the home fans.
