Review by Burnley fan Peter Jones

Why did you choose to go to this game and why were you looking forward to it?

Me and my mate Tag meet at as many Burnley away games as we can.

How did you travel to the game and how easy was it?

I drove by car. The journey from Essex (and the one back) called for great patience.

If you drove, was it easy to find car parking and make your way to the stadium?

I parked at the poorly signposted Redbridge Park and Ride then cycled to the Stadium. Oxford United seems to have missed out entirely on the cycling revolution. There is no cycle park at the ground but then again the Stadium is also missing an entire West Stand. I parked securely and without misgivings at the Holiday Inn next door.

Where did you eat on your away day and was it good value?

From a van at the Stadium I bought a cheeseburger with onions, and a fizzy drink, for £10. Pricey.

What did you think of the food and drink available inside the ground?

Pricey!

What did you think of the away end and your view of the game?

The view was very good. The quality of what we were viewing was less so.

What was the atmosphere like during the match?

The home team was under the pump for long periods, defending for dear life, so their fans were subdued. Huge cheer at the final whistle when they knew they’d escaped with a 0-0.

How friendly were the home fans out of 10?

10/10

How easy did you find it to get away from the stadium after the game?

There’s no signage at all from the Stadium to the Park and Ride, so of course I got lost. This is not wise in this city because unlike Cambridge, Oxford’s boasts about being a ‘cycling city’ are all mouth and no trousers – their car drivers are thoughtless and impatient when they are faced with bike riders, and ‘National Cycle Route 5’ runs out of ideas at every road junction or roundabout. I’ve felt safer cycling in central London.

How much did you spend in total on this away day? Was it good value for money?

£40 plus car fuel. Quite a lot for a dull 0-0!

Would you recommend this away day to other fans?

When Oxford United moves to a new home, reputed to be on the cards, it may be worth a visit.
